The Photographic Activity Test, or PAT, is a worldwide standard for archival quality in photograph enclosures. The test predicts any possible interactions between photographs and their enclosures. It is also used to test the components of the enclosures, such as adhesives, inks, labels, and tapes. |

The materials used must not damage the object, so more than one type may be specified depending upon the range of objects. RealChanges, for example will only place photographs in materials marked “Passed Photo Activity Test.” Documents will be placed in enclosures that are pH neutral. |
